The phrase "behind you" carries a multitude of meanings and uses in the English language. It can be a simple directional indicator, a supportive statement, or even a warning. For instance, "Close the door behind you" is a common request to ensure privacy and security after exiting or entering a room. In a more supportive context, "I'm behind you all the way" expresses unwavering support for someone's actions or decisions.

In moments of urgency or caution, "Behind you!" can serve as a critical alert to potential danger in one's immediate vicinity. This versatility makes it a phrase that's as practical as it is symbolic, embodying the idea that what's behind us—whether literally or figuratively—can have significant impact on our present and future actions.

Understanding the nuances of such phrases can enhance communication, ensuring clarity, and fostering better relationships, whether in personal interactions or professional environments. It's a reminder that language is not just about words, but also about context, tone, and the unspoken messages we convey. Exploring the depth of such phrases enriches our grasp of language and its profound ability to connect us.

[IMPORTANT!] Regarding HTTP Error 451

Recently, 5ch has been under attack by scripters and spammers. As a counter measure, (and because 5ch management is too retarded to put a CAPTCHA on this site) non-Japanese IPs can no longer post on any board on this site.
Which means boards made for foreigners such as dejima and the embassy ("8") boards have been now rendered useless.

If you wish to post, you can try using Tuxler with the residential VPN mode. You can also try SoftEther VPN Gate and try multiple Japanese IPs until you find one that isn't already banned.
If you wish to have a good experience on 5ch just like that of an ordinary 5ch user that lives in Japan, your only choice is to buy UPLIFT, though.
I don't think most people will want to give money to the terrible owners of this site though.

The coronavirus may attack T cells, similar to HIV

1 名前:Anonymous 2020/04/14(Tue) 14:54:34.90
Another study from researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai and the New York Blood Center provides more harrowing evidence for the long-term consequences of contracting the virus.
According to the findings published in the journal Cellular & Molecular Immunology, when the researchers initiated contact between COVID-19 and lab-grown T lymphocytes — better known as T cells — the virus disabled the cells, which help identify and eliminate pathogens in the body.
The researchers also found that SARS, a related coronavirus, could not infect T cells. The study found that COVID-19’s damage to the T lymphocytes resembled that caused by HIV.

Record 37,000 children suspected to have suffered abuse in Japan

1 名前:Anonymous 2018/10/06(Sat) 18:36:43.88
http://english.kyodonews.net/news/2018/10/5da4a3931869-record-37000-children-suspected-to-have-suffered-abuse-in-japan.html

Japanese police referred to child welfare authorities a record-high 37,113 suspected victims of child abuse in the first half of this year, a report released Thursday showed.

The preliminary figure marks an increase of 6,851 children aged 17 or younger being affected, as compared to the same period last year, according to the National Police Agency.

The agency believes the figures do not necessarily indicate there is an increase in abuse, generally, but rather that people are reporting more suspected cases to authorities amid heightened public awareness.

Police say the increased reporting has allowed them to intervene in potentially dangerous situations earlier.

The problem came into stark relief in March when Yua Funato, 5, died in Tokyo after being beaten and neglected by her parents. The girl had reportedly begged her parents to stop their mistreatment.

The case sent shockwaves through Japanese society when it was revealed Funato had recorded messages pleading for forgiveness in a notebook, all while her parents allegedly underfed her in order to keep the young girl "slim like a model."
2 名前:Anonymous 2018/10/06(Sat) 18:37:01.10
The girl was also allegedly woken at 4 a.m. every day to practice writing and to carry out other tasks.

Following her death, the government compiled emergency measures to tackle child abuse, including a plan to employ an additional 2,000 child welfare staff nationwide by fiscal 2022, up from the 3,253 employed as of April last year.

"I understand that abuse leaves a serious impact on children's mind and body," said Junzo Yamamoto, the new head of the National Public Safety Commission, at a press conference, adding he intends to instruct police to promote measures to help abused children nationwide.

The latest report showed police also removed 2,127 children from their homes in the six months through June, deeming that their lives had been threatened, while forwarding to government child consultation centers 14,869 abuse reports that they could not immediately confirm, according to the report.

Of the 37,113 total minors affected, roughly 70 percent, or 26,415, were suspected of having been subject to psychological abuse, including 16,869 who had personally witnessed domestic violence.

A total of 6,792 victims were suspected to have suffered physical abuse, 3,795 neglect, and 111 were thought to have been raped or forced into some other form of violent sexual activity, the report showed.

The number of child pornography cases handled by police rose to a record high 1,423 in the first half of 2018, up 281, with the number of cases of possession of illegal materials growing and cases of people allegedly making explicit content involving children reducing.

The number of child porn possession cases stood at 393, surging from 31 the previous year, after police obtained a list of some 7,000 people who purchased child porn DVDs last year, while cases involving people making child porn fell 38 to 686.

Some 615 children were victimized in child pornography cases in total, up 21, with high school students 38.0 percent of the total, followed by 34.5 percent junior high school students and 22.4 percent elementary school students, according to the agency.

Cases of victims being lured into taking and sending nude images of themselves using mobile phones were most common at 39.0 percent, followed by hidden cameras filming victims at 25.4 percent and child prostitution at 15.0 percent.

About 90 percent of victims of nude image-sharing were high school students and junior high school students, it showed.

Sheriff's deputy rescues skunk with cup stuck on head

1 名前:Anonymous 2018/10/21(Sun) 02:07:25.63
A California sheriff's deputy overcame his fear of bad odors and used his bare hands to pull a plastic cup from the head of an unlucky skunk.

The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Crane called for backup Wednesday night when he spotted the skunk running around with a cup stuck over its head.

Sgt. Charman responded to the scene, but remained in his car and filmed as Crane attempted to rescue the animal.

The video shows Crane attempting unsuccessfully to use a pole to remove the cup from a distance, but he eventually gave up and used his hands.

"Deputy Crane felt bad for the skunk but was obviously reluctant to approach it," the sheriff's office wrote. "Deputy Crane mustered the courage and after nearly 10 minutes of trying to use his baton to pull off the cup (as shown in the video), grabbed the cup with his bare hands and freed the skunk from its bonds!"

Long-Term Effects of the Coronavirus

1 名前:Anonymous 2020/04/14(Tue) 14:52:26.75

Uncertainty has been the trademark of both the economic and public health crises caused by the coronavirus. Occasionally that’s not a bad thing — like in the emerging consensus that the initial models for case fatality rates and ICU beds needed were too high.
But over the last few days, several new reports on the nature of the coronavirus showed how much more we need to learn about the virus before the effects of reopening the country can be fully anticipated.
Below are four such alarming studies — though approach with some caution, as the clinical understanding of the outbreak continues to change as testing expands.

Scientists report a case of a body infecting a live patient
Let’s begin with the most morbid detail: Thailand is now reporting the first fatal case of coronavirus that was transmitted from a deceased patient to a medical examiner.
“Not just the medical examiners, but morgue technicians and the people in funeral homes need to take extra care,” Angelique Corthals, a professor of pathology at CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told BuzzFeed News.
With the high daily death count pushing the capacity of morgues in cities across the country, the concern that bodies could transmit the virus is especially alarming, considering pictures from Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit showing bodies piled in vacant spaces in the facility.
2 名前:Anonymous 2020/04/14(Tue) 14:53:08.95
The coronavirus may have severe impacts on liver and heart function in some patients
For the vast majority of those who contract the virus and live, the Los Angeles Times reported on some potential and distressing long-term effects of COVID-19 coming out of a study published in China:

In a study posted this week, scientists in China examined the blood test results of 34 COVID-19 patients over the course of their hospitalization. In those who survived mild and severe disease alike, the researchers found that many of the biological measures had “failed to return to normal.”

Chief among the worrisome test results were readings that suggested these apparently recovered patients continued to have impaired liver function. That was the case even after two tests for the live virus had come back negative and the patients were cleared to be discharged.

At the same time, as cardiologists are contending with the immediate effects of COVID-19 on the heart, they’re asking how much of the damage could be long-lasting. In an early study of COVID-19 patients in China, heart failure was seen in nearly 12% of those who survived, including in some who had shown no signs of respiratory distress.
3 名前:Anonymous 2020/04/14(Tue) 14:54:01.03
While concerning, the size of the study is far too small to draw a big-picture, epidemiological understanding of COVID-19’s long-term effects on the body.
Another caveat noted by the LA Times: The assessment of organ failure in coronavirus survivors is complicated by that fact that “patients with disorders that affect the heart, liver, blood and lungs face a higher risk of becoming very sick with COVID-19 in the first place.
That makes it difficult to distinguish COVID-19 after-effects from the problems that made patients vulnerable to begin with — especially so early in the game.”
